Spirituality Without Fanfare

Once you have been on your spiritual path for a while you will start to realise that it is best to not take yourself too seriously.

There are two types of people who practise spirituality, in my experience. Those who tell others how powerful they are or how enlightened they are or how good their expensive courses are…and those who just get on with it, quietly and without fanfare. Do a course for fun if you think you will get something out of it but do realise that the only thing really worth spending is time itself. Time to learn, time to experiment, time to let things simmer.

Unfortunately being bombarded with all these enlightenment sellers can put some potential newcomers off discovering more about themselves and their possibilities and that’s a shame as there is nothing to be nervous about. Don’t be scared by the hype, don’t be put off by those who dress themselves up as mystical beings who need to be adored. They are selling a service which is the spiritual equivalent of getting your nails painted…it’s fun but it isn’t an essential life choice. You can do what you need to do with a little online research, free resources, reading books and, most importantly, living the life and gaining the experience.

Those who are quietly spiritual know that everyone is an individual who will be spending years on their unique path, no expensive course is going to get anyone there quicker. Sorry. Sometimes it can even slow progress down as you are following someone else’s path not your own. Their way of doing things might not be yours.

Your path is your own and you don’t have to be doing A, B or C to qualify for any award. There is no award. There’s a reward for taking a spiritual path though. Several of them.

If you can successfully meditate you can make your daily life calmer and happier. This can take the edge off the hardest situation. YouTube has some really good meditations. Try Michael Sealey or Jason Stephenson.

Practising mindfulness will give you a better outlook on life and will make those challenges easier to deal with because you stay in the moment, at least long enough to have a break from your mind chatter. Here is a 8 week free course, run by Dave Potter a fully certified MBSR instructor.

Being able to work with the energies to heal yourself and others for free is your way to give back and to do your bit to help change one small part of the world which is suffering…whether that be an individual or a situation.  Learn how to give reiki to yourself with this previous article of mine Reiki For Self Love.  Where you go with it afterwards when it comes to helping others is for you to decide.

Ritual is a way to bring order to chaos as well as engaging in aged practices – whether you just count your morning ritual of shower, tea and toast before work or rituals used with your deity of choice, such as prayers. A good morning ritual sets you up for the day and most of us have several rituals which we enjoy. Perhaps yours is a candlelit bath or a cup of chamomile tea last thing before bed. A ritual is simply something you do at a certain time and, sometimes, for a certain reason. Getting a few rituals of your own in place will bring structure and certainty to your day and you will find you look forward to doing them. They will bring a comfort and a smile, a sense of well-being.

Learning how to work with herbs is another way that you can help yourself. Again there are many online courses out there for the basics but a good book will do you just as well too if money is tight. The work of Susun Weed is a good start if you are in the USA or Herbcraft by Anna Franklin and Susan Lavender is an excellent choice for those in the UK and Europe. Herbcraft gives a broad use for plants including medicinal and magickal as well as a bit of history for interest.

Learning which plants are edible is very important so do take care as there are some deadly ones out there too.

Knowledge is essential when using herbs in whatever form you choose them. Several good books for cross referencing are essential and you should never rely on just one photo in a book to decide which plant is in front of you in the wild. Several good, clear close up photos are needed. Of course, the company of someone who already knows is ideal but few of us have that and so we must take things gradually and be careful with our choices by being sensible.

Here is a fun video done by someone just starting out using herbs. We all have to start somewhere…

Many of us enjoy a cup of chamomile tea or peppermint tea so why not take it a step further and start learning how to work with the energies of the plants in your vicinity, growing your own or even just in their essential oil form. Pure oils can be used for cleaning and sanitising your home, refreshing the aroma, getting rid of garden pests, used to heal yourself and pets and in a multitude of ways.

I have had no training in essential oils but taught myself gradually over many years and now use them in every part of my life. They are surprisingly versatile, useful and helpful and, of course, chemical free if chosen wisely. There are many articles online which will help you choose a starter arsenal of essential oils. My first three choices would be roman chamomile, lavender and peppermint. I have linked to an article for each to get you started if you are new to essential oils.

If you are starting off on your path and follow the signposts above and in my previous nine articles then together they should give you your first few footsteps. You will be on your way to a spiritual life which allows you to grow, gain confidence, deal with challenges, heal your everyday niggles and give love and strength to those around you. There will be days when it all seems too much and you will want a break. Be kind to yourself on those days and do whatever you need to do. Everyone has a spiritual crisis at some point in their lives…sometimes more than one…but this is good because this is where the biggest shifts happen.

My final suggestions are to enjoy life, love who you are and do what you have to do to make your life your own. Never be dictated by those who surround you or even those in your area of choice spiritually. Always trust your instincts and if you aren’t sure what they are saying then meditate and wait. The answer is there.

Using Tarot Cards To Receive Answers From Your Spirit Guides

I believe everybody has their own spirit guides. Whether they come in the form of guardian angels, your own higher consciousness or separate energies such as ancestors, reiki guides or deity is entirely up to you to decide.

Some time ago I found having a scientific brain made the of concept of believing I was able to talk directly to my guides quite difficult to accept. I thought if I did (or was trying to do so) that it could well be just my imagination and that the answers received were therefore not reliable enough to be taken seriously. I needed another way.

I have a few tarot decks which I have bought myself or that other people have bought for me for special occasions. I had been starting to learn the tarot for use with the Kabbalah and for self improvement purposes only as I wasn’t that keen on using them for divination as such. I prefer to make my own future and always hope that I do a better job than some of my past decisions. I believe that the future is a fluid, changing wave and therefore any type of fortune telling is a bit of a waste of time. This is just my opinion, based on my energy work, and I am happy for people to disagree with me 🙂

I had a particular deck of cards my partner had bought for me. I couldn’t seem to get these cards to work for me in the usual way I used them. The cards were shuffled and dealt as normal but never seemed to deal with the matter at hand. I was very disappointed as I loved the look of them and had asked him specifically to buy these ones for me but now I couldn’t gel with them.

One day I had got the pack out to try again and I idly shuffled them as I pondered a difficult family matter, my mind drifting off the task at hand and on to more personal matters…happens to all of us! As my mind mulled over the problem a card flew out of the pack. Instead of thinking myself clumsy and putting it straight back in the deck I felt compelled to give it a closer look. What I found was exact guidance to my family matter. Curiosity compelled me to carry on. I talked about the problem as if talking to a friend out loud and asked for two more cards to fall out. These came as I talked and the three cards together gave me the guidance I needed.

Of course, I tried this several times after that. I would sit and talk fluently out loud about a problem or situation and the cards would fall out as necessary.  They have never been wrong since and I now use this particular deck all the time as my own special thread between myself and my spirit guides. It is a great comfort and extra special as my partner bought them for me.

You don’t have to know how to read tarot cards to use them to communicate with your spirit guides.

To start with you can use the guide book to look up the meanings and write each session up in a journal so you can look back on the situation, and the insight given, another time. As you go forward you may find your intuition allows you to decide what each card means for you personally. The interpretation in the book which comes with the deck is the interpretation of the decks creator but it is not cast in stone and you may find the meanings change for you. This is perfectly okay. You can meditate on the cards individually without a question and answer session to decide their meaning for you and write this up in your journal or you can simply let nature and determination take its own natural course and let their meanings make themselves known as you go along.

There is never an incorrect way in spirituality and your path is your own…always and without reservation.

The advice you get through the tarot will always be helpful when it comes from a place of unconditional love. Before the start of each session it would be sensible to visualise yourself in a crystalline egg, surrounded by white light. Set your intention at the start of the session for the work ahead and ask your spirit guides to come through with unconditional love, protection and advice for your highest good.

Your guides will always give loving advice and will never tell you to do something which you find uncomfortable. Neither will they mind if you don’t follow their guidance. Everything is your choice and you are always in control.

Try this for yourself and let the answers you seek flow freely, in trust that the help is there whenever you need it.

The Spiritual Way

I find myself at a crossroads of sorts with my spirituality. I have a great deal of knowledge on various spiritual subjects and now is the time for me to decide what to do with it. I am thinking of having a free series on this very blog in the future, once I have written it and fine tuned it, which will help beginners self-realise their own spiritual potential. There is no ulterior motive to this, just a desire to share what I have learnt in the hope it will help someone else.

On a practical level I am working with the universal energies via Reiki to send free distance healing to those who ask for it and those whom I offer it to. I do this up to three times a week. I am finding this very satisfying as one of my beliefs is that the universal energy is there for all of us to tap into, not just those with enough money to pay for it. I know Reiki helps and I like to get stuck in there and walk the walk as often as time will allow. You can learn how to work with Reiki yourself by reading a previous article of mine here.

It is really important to remember as you start on your path into the spiritual and metaphysical worlds that being humble is one of the most important things you can learn to be. Learning how to send healing or exercising your psychic muscle isn’t like an episode of Charmed and you won’t be banishing demons next. It is all about self-improvement and learning to help others. It is about listening. Feeling the emotions of other people and recognising them for what they are. It’s about taking responsibility for your thoughts and your actions and realising how those thoughts and actions make their mark in the collective consciousness.

At the very least you can learn to become much more aware of what is going on around you and more appreciative of the little things in life that you might have otherwise rushed past. Mindfulness is an excellent example of a technique which will help you be more in the moment. There is a completely free online 8 week course in Mindfulness which you can access here. Trust me, it is well worth the effort.

Being spiritually aware isn’t about just sitting bolt upright, cross-legged and meditating. Where the humbleness also comes in is admitting that sometimes you can cock-up being all Zen and in fact get just as mad, irrationally or otherwise, as the next person. Nobody is perfect. The stoppage is having the control to think about what you will do next before instinctively just going for the primal option and acting without thought, potentially doing great harm to yourself as well as others. Guilt and remorse tend to stick around in their black gooey state, particularly in those quieter moments, and can be very difficult to rid yourself of. Why have the bother?

Having faith in whatever deity or truth you choose to believe in can be very empowering. When you have that sort of faith on your side it will give you the strength to walk away from toxic people or those who would harm you. It gives you the backbone to say ‘Enough!’ and leave. There is nothing fluffy about true faith and belief. It gives you the courage and feeling that you are never alone and that you are heard.

One final thing I will put at the end of this blog – every religion is the right religion for the person who chose it as their own, as long as it harms no other. Faith gives us strength but we should never assume it will give that same strength to another, their needs may be different to ours.

Now, more than ever, we must try to live in harmony and embrace other people’s differences and unique ways. We are all equal. We must learn to share what we have with each other, freely and with love, for the betterment of us all.

Red Apophyllite

This piece of clear, red and green Apophyllite has been with me for a little over a month now and has been a real pleasure to work with.

It gives off a really palpable, strong energy which everyone who has held it has remarked upon, even those who aren’t earth energy minded. There is just a power to it which buzzes in the hand and it is a truly extraordinary piece. I would say it is on par with my Lemurian Seed Crystal for energy output and there is something ‘otherworldly’ about it too.

Apophyllite is also called the Reiki crystal as it is said its effect is similar to a Reiki treatment. I can certainly vouch for its healing energy which is very powerful. This crystal can chase away the darkest of days and brings joy and peace when held. When I have worked with it for longer I shall start to use it in my long distance healing work along with my Lemurian Seed Crystal and my Amethyst cluster as I feel this is the way it wishes to be worked with.

Apophyllite is a stone of truth and it is said it will help you see the truth of any matter more clearly. It is usually clear or green so it is unusual to find a piece with this red hue to it. It is simply the result of minerals near the crystal being absorbed into it as it is forming and it makes a unique crystal. The photos really don’t do this particular crystal aesthetic justice…the clear, green and red sparkly formations on their igneous matrix is really delicate and beautiful up close. I am pretty certain the matrix is basalt (giving strength, courage and fanning the fire within!), which hardens into a vesicular texture (similar to a pumice stone in appearance) and so this crystal is very light in weight too. It needs very careful handling as the crystal can flake and the matrix is very fragile. Don’t drop it!

Apophyllite can be worked with when seeking knowledge of spirit guides or power animals. It can clear a room of negativity and your aura too and is a perfect stone to have in the bedroom to help encourage a decent night’s sleep.  It is said to be a crystal which can heal family rifts, encourage togetherness and lift the vibrational energy of any room it is placed in. A stone of high vibration, it can be used to cleanse other crystals and can be easily cleansed itself by waving it through a wisp of incense and voicing your intention to cleanse it.

If you are a healer then I recommend getting a piece of this and experimenting with it. I feel it has great potential to significantly enhance my personal spiritual work and I am just about ready to jump in and see just how good these vibes really are 🙂

It Starts With One Ripple…

Now the holidays are over and everyone in the family is returning to their normal routines, I took a moment to reflect on how the holidays went and the lessons which had been learnt. I was pleased to note that despite our large family being all together in the same house there were no disagreements this year…for a family as large and extended as ours that is quite an achievement. We all love each other but personalities can clash, especially after one too many mince pies!

The other lesson which stands out for me is one in the wider world. There are a lot of people out there who just need a hug. As part of my spiritual service for the holidays I wanted to reach those people who were having a hard time and just needed to know that someone somewhere was hearing them. I thought the easiest way to do this was to use my long distance healing techniques to send them a bit of a boost. I decided Facebook was the simplest way to find them.

On two of the Facebook groups I belong to I posted a simple message stating my intention to do a mass energy healing session in a couple of hours time and asked that anyone who needed a hug, who was in pain or who was lonely to add their names in the comments and I would name them and channel energy for them in a group healing session. Within half an hour I had hundreds of responses. Their needs ranged from those who were indeed having a hard time just because it was the holidays to those who had loved ones in hospital. By the time the two hours came to a close I had well over 400 people asking to be included.

This may have seemed like a impossible amount to cope with but it was very doable. I had devised a plan in advance which would allow me to hold the energy in a cone shape and then simply allow that energy to touch each person as they were named. I trusted my reiki guides would do the rest. It worked very well and I had excellent feedback.

A couple of healers who were also online at the time joined in by holding space and sending energy too and it was a joyous connection for all, with some participants having very noticeable positive results.

Now to the sceptics among us, I would simply say I don’t mind how this is viewed to have worked…either in full belief of the reiki working its magic (which is what I think) or simply by the placebo effect…to me it was a clear indication that this type of group healing CAN be beneficial and is worth doing. At the very least it soothes those who need it most as it makes them feel heard and valued. A bit of a win all round, I think 🙂

I will be looking to do more of these types of group healing sessions in the near future and on a regular basis. At this time I think it is important we all do what we can to help other people. It is easier to batten down the hatches, draw our family to us and hope the lightening doesn’t hit but there is work to be done by all of us out in the wider world  for those who are less fortunate than ourselves, for those who are oppressed…and for anyone who just needs a hug.

Anybody can send healing to another. You can do so using prayers, keeping them in your thoughts in a positive way, sending them positive affirmations and seeing them in your minds eye interacting in their own lives in a positive way by using visualisation to that effect. If you wish to try hands on healing you can have a look at this post I did in 2016 Reiki For Self Love which will show you how easy it is. You could then adapt this to send distance healing if you wish. A wonderful way to do this is to hold a crystal in your hands and visualise the crystal as being the person to whom you are sending healing energy. Talk out loud by speaking positive, healing affirmations and direct all your positive energy at the crystal. Sounds a bit ‘out there’ but what it really does is simply focus your thoughts and the energy whilst giving you something tactile to centre on. And it works.

I am an extremely lucky woman – I have a loving family, enough food to eat and a roof over my head. I am going to make 2017 the year my healing activities are my abundance – with humbleness and kindness, for free and with good, powerful intention.

I ask you to join me. We aren’t as helpless as we may sometimes feel. One ripple added to another and another and another can be very powerful.

Reiki Share

I think it is about time for another Reiki share 🙂

I have been channelling Reiki via distant healing and face-to-face for friends, family and those in need since 1999. I don’t charge money and I don’t run a business. I believe Reiki healing should be available for everyone who needs it.

I am limiting this Reiki share to three people due to time restraints and my own other healing commitments. You may nominate someone else to receive Reiki from me but I must have their email address in order to get their permission and discuss their particular needs.

If your name is drawn out I will contact you via email, ask if you have any particular needs and arrange a suitable time and day for us both. You can receive the healing at anytime of the day or night but it is always a more rounded experience for you if you receive it when you are able to stop what you are doing and relax.

As before, I am offering a free Reiki distant healing session of 30 minutes to the first three followers of this blog who are drawn out of the hat on Sunday 20th November 2016. You must be already following me as of today’s date – 18th November 2016 – to qualify. Please send me your contact details using the form below and I will contact you via email if your name is pulled out to arrange a suitable date and time for us both.

I will not be announcing who has received Reiki from me in a later post as I believe this is confidential between myself and the recipients. Privacy is always respected.

Disclaimer: By entering in to this draw you are agreeing to receive Reiki from me at your own risk. I am not a medical professional and if you have any concerns about your health then you should seek advice from someone face to face and qualified to help you. I cannot diagnose, nor suggest treatments, for any illnesses on a one to one basis.

Spiritual Guidance

This year has seen me make wonderful progress with my spirit guides. I always knew there was spiritual guidance around me but I had a particular type of contact with them. This has always been because I don’t feel comfortable having direct verbal communication with spirit.

My communications with my guides tend to be pictorial and emotional – fast paced images which give the whole story quickly and efficiently accompanied by the appropriate emotion. My empath side works in the same way in my day to day life. It is quite an exhausting way of communicating as it is very involved emotionally rather than given as a detached, verbal communication but it is my choice and how I asked for it to be. I feel their presence and personality, that is how I know they are there, and each is unique. A daydream but with more substance and meaning, is the best way I can think to describe an encounter.

This summer I learnt the names of two of my spirit guides – one male and one female – after I decided I wanted to learn a little more. Strangely it didn’t seem that important to know their names before and I was just used to them being there but this year I just felt the need to know. I am really glad I did find out as it makes the contact even more real for me rather than still being able to leave it all in the ‘possibly all in my imagination’ arena and playing it safe and scientifically sound 🙂

I have three everyday spirit guides. One is a beautiful but ancient woman who has a no nonsense feel to her, one is a young boy who is a rebel and just a little sarky sometimes and the other is an elemental who is joy and laughter. These three could easily be the three strongest parts of my personality but I have come to accept them as separate to me and I give them due respect. The woman is very much in the forefront and her name is the female one I was given this year. Rather strongly given in the end because at one point I still wasn’t sure (ever the doubting one!).

As an aside, all this doubt and wanting proof keeps my feet firmly on the ground in my spiritual work. I think this is a good thing. I have complete faith that the energy work I do works for the highest good of the person receiving it but I am also wise enough to know I am merely a channel for the energy and not some powerful being who is superior to other people. The worse thing someone who works with energy can do is believe they are more than they are. Delusion can lead the unwitting down many unpleasant roads.

My joy elemental has a lot to answer for and I am pretty much convinced my inappropriately timed humour and love of the ridiculous comes from them. Humour has seen me through many a challenge and I welcome its presence, even when it does get me some strange looks.

I also know a man has been around me since I was a little girl, way before I knew of his significance. I learnt his name this year too. He has two women standing with him sometimes – this is my team of healers and they allow me to help others to the best of my ability through my energy work. I am instinctively able to choose crystals, aromatherapy and symbols to heal and replenish others and I have always just seemed to know how to do these things. I believe I have these particular guides to thank for these valuable skills.

Another team I regularly give thanks to is my Reiki team of healers and those who are representative of other healing systems I use too. I feel very much heard when I indicate where I would like distance healing sent and there is always a feeling of teamwork, love and satisfaction.

Recently I have been looking at connecting with any animal guides I might have. I would say the Stag, the Magpie, the Snake and the Raven all have important roles in my life. Interestingly there has also been a polar bear who has been visiting me often in my meditations lately.

What is your take on spirit guides? Do you have any and how do you communicate with them?

A Gift of Gratitude

Last month’s free Reiki distance healing sessions which I offered after reaching 100 followers went very well and so I have decided to offer another three this month. There is one lady who still needs to get back to me and arrange a session…if you still would like to proceed, you know who you are 😉

The rules are simple – if you were following me yesterday you can fill out the form below and I will add your name into the hat. I will pull out three names this coming Monday 8th August 2016 and will contact you by email if you are one of the three names I draw.

As last time, if your name is drawn I will send you a free 30 minute distance healing treatment for you or someone else you nominate with their permission. I will need to contact them myself via email.

Again, I will not be announcing the recipients as I consider privacy to be very important. I have been giving free distance healings to those in need for nearly two decades now. I do not run a business and do not charge for any healing given. However, due to time and healing given elsewhere, I only have three spots available I can offer every so often through my blog.

Reiki will not cause any harm but, as we have to do these days, I will take your entry into the draw as your acceptance that you do so at your own unconditional risk.

I will ask more about your specific needs if your name is drawn out of the hat.

My Place of Meditation

I dabble with my computer art program sometimes and this one is a representation of one of my meditation spaces. You will note I like my symbolism 🙂

It shows up quite dark when viewed with my tablet but not too bad on a computer. I am not an artist but I do like to have a go sometimes 😀

Symbolism, Magic and Universal Energy

Symbolism has been used throughout human history as a way of expressing or accessing what we see, feel or need. Symbolism is all around us – from advertising brand images to the flags of countries which proudly fly on masts. Symbols will make us feel in a certain way if we understand their meaning…they can be uplifting as in the pride you may feel when looking at your countries flag at a football match or they can have the opposite effect if they represent something which is horrifying such as a swastika because of what they are associated with. The point is well known ones will bring a similar emotive response in the population viewing them if that symbol represents something which is understood by that population. They have been given form and are no longer just the 2D image we see before us. They have depth and are alive, bringing with them their own energies and emotional responses.

Reiki and other healing systems use symbols too. These symbols have been used by many people over hundreds, sometimes thousands, of years depending on the healing system being used. They have been given form by their common usage and therefore they have a certain meaning and goal. They are used to hone and direct the universal energy to support the body, mind or both of the person receiving treatment depending on the intent and need.

Reiki doesn’t come from the person laying their hands on another. We are merely a channel for the universal energy which exists for all to access. The symbols direct the energy in a certain way depending on which are used. Here is the interesting part – by using the Reiki symbols with clear intention and love anybody can access the universal energy associated with Reiki. It is a fact that the universal energy is there for all of us to access and we have just forgotten about its existence over the ages. You don’t need to go on expensive courses to learn how to access that energy. I previously wrote a post about how to do this with Reiki and you can read it here. I did do two levels of Reiki many years ago now and have worked with those symbols and that of other systems regularly since. Now when I come across new symbols from other healing systems I simply research them and incorporate some into my own work if I find they have merit and enhance the way I do things.

For those wanting a definition of the ‘universal energy’ I would say for me it is the healing energy given out by the Earth and all things in it and on it and around it, including the universe. Every piece of matter gives out energy, we are all connected to this energy and each other. Some people more so than others as they are more aware of it and know how to access it although it makes them no more special than anyone else just more self-aware, perhaps.

The power of the human consciousness – I truly believe we are not singular, closed circuit entities but are cogs in a greater system affecting it and each other with our thoughts, words and deeds. A sobering thought when we think of what we do to this beautiful planet and to each other through seeking profit, war and religious dominance…when we hurt other parts of the system we also hurt ourselves. It can be used in positive ways too such as sending healing energy and love to those people or situations which need it and in all manner of good ways. In fact it should be and the more we do so the more love will be felt by all. That isn’t so much a naive, airy fairy way of looking at it as a representation of my wish for something to change in a positive manner for us all.

There are lots of ways to tap into this energy which surrounds us all. For instance, I might feel the need to clear negativity around me or negative thoughts on an issue in my mind. For this I may use two of the symbols associated with Reiki to direct the universal energy but I will also enhance that with crystals, herbs and candles. In my case I will also call upon my Goddess for help. The crystals, herbs, candles and tools I use in various ways will focus my mind to the task as well as lend their energies for me to tap into. I may use a white candle for purity of thought. Rose petals for self-love and healing, Rosemary to bring clarity, Apache Tears to clear negative energies and a few other correspondences of choice. Using selective correspondences used by others for eons for the same or similar purposes (and my belief in them) will focus the positive energy and my mind to my task at hand. A clarity of purpose and intention, clear thought processes and a total belief in a successful outcome will further enhance what I am doing to a positive end.

I am using all these things as symbols to represent and achieve my goal. Their use for the same thing by other people in the past has given them form and meaning in the higher realm as well as the energy and physical properties they give out as matter on Earth. This is what gives them their essence and makes them useful tools for us to make good use of and this is the ground roots of magic.
